Thank you for visiting Piccolo Sue Books.  Each of these stories and songs is very special to me, and I appreciate every kind person who takes the time to read, share, and learn more about them.

I knew music would be an important part of my life when I was six years old and my first grade teacher brought a flute to class.  I was instantly hooked and certainly owe more than I could ever repay to the guidance of all of the teachers I have had throughout my life.

Following high school, I attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois as a flute performance major and was afforded the unique opportunity to study with the same musicians I spent my childhood and adolescence admiring.

During the winter of my sophomore year, I began to feel an undeniable calling on my life to become what meant the most to me, a teacher.  Recognizing this path would look different, I made the very difficult decision to transfer.  I still and will always carry the kindness and support shown to me by the amazing faculty, students, and friends I met during that formative time.

I went on to earn a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Louisiana Tech University and later learned that the credits I earned at Northwestern would allow me to add an instrumental music certification to my teaching certificate, leading to twelve years (and counting) of teaching the youngest children about the joys of music.

The Piccolo Sue series was actually born from an audition I took with the Monroe Symphony in which  I was added as their substitute piccolo.  I did finally receive an invitation to perform with the orchestra,  and it was a beautiful, perfect night!

Many of these stories are drawn from my own life experiences.  I hope they inspire you to follow your heart and to look the One who holds our dreams in His hands.
